The RSOP Aquatics program is very popular with people of all ages. We pride ourselves on a high quality pool environment and an outstanding instructional program. Come to work out, learn, and enjoy the experience. The mission of the RSOP Aquatics program is to help each person learn to be safe when they are in, on, or around the water!

Our swim lesson program covers skills and knowledge in a logical progression for each level of aquatic skill development. As participants develop these skills, they will become safer, stronger swimmers.

Swim Lessons
We are a proud sponsor of the American Red Cross Toddler, Pre-school, Youth "Learn to Swim" aquatics program. Swim lessons are open to anyone and everyone. Our swim lessons are taught by outstanding, qualified instructors who put learning, safety, and individualized instruction first. Summer 2008 Schedule

Open Swim
-Everybody is welcome!! Bring the whole family... an excellent time to play! -Flotation aids/ pool toys are allowed in shallow end of pool with parent in water
-Participants must be at least 6 years old, over 4 feet tall, or accompanied by an adult at all times.
-A swim test is required for all youth wanting to swim in the deep end of pool

Swim Pass Prices are:
Youth 10 Swim Punch Cash $17.50
Adult 10  Swim Punch Card $27.50
Senior 10  Swim Punch Card $17.50

PLEASE NOTE: No cash will be accepted at the pool office for any of the Open /Lap swims
A Hydraulic chair lift system and Easy Ladder are available for patrons requiring assistance in and out of the pool.

Lap Swim
This is an excellent way to get your swim workout in for the day! There are 6 lap lanes that are provided with orange cones designated speed level for each lane:

  • Lane 1 - Easy
  • Lane 2 - Medium
  • Lane 3 - Fast
  • Lane 4 - Very Fast
  • Lane 5 - Medium
  • Lane 6 - Easy

Lap Swimming Etiquette

  • All lanes circle counter clockwise
  • The black center-line on the bottom of the pool is always on your left
  • All lanes are marked with orange cones, which indicate lane speed.
  • Please make sure you seed yourself in the appropriate lane for your ability level
  • Be aware of your speed. If you are being passed regularly, move to a slower lane
  • If you are passing others regularly, move to a faster lane
  • Try to avoid swimming side by side
  • A Hydraulic chair lift system and Easy Ladder are available for patrons requiring assistance in and out of the pool.

Scuba Diving
PADI Open Water Diver course
If you’ve always wondered what lies beneath the surface, now’s
the time to find out. Start the journey of a lifetime with the PADI
Open Water Diver course. It will change you forever.
In Phase I of the PADI Open Water Diver course, your instructor
takes you through the basics of learning how to scuba dive. You
start in our pool getting the background knowledge and develop
your skills along the way. In Phase II you head to open water
(ocean, lake, quarry, etc.) to earn your PADI Open Water Diver
certification! Phase II is NOT part of this course. You'll need to
schedule your open water check-out dives with the instructor.
Phase II price is $160.
Session 1: Saturdays, May 31, June 7, 14, 21 3:00-6:00pm
Session 2: Saturdays, July 5, 12, 19, 26 3:00-6:00pm
Class Sessions: Five Confined Water & Knowledge Development
Modules done over the four class sessions.
Prerequisites: 10 years for Junior Open Water Diver and 15 years
for Open Water Diver. Good health, reasonable fitness and comfort
in the water.
You Provide: PADI Open Water Crew-Pak (Included with your
Phase I payment), Mask, Neoprene Boots, Fins, & Snorkel.
We Provide: tank, regulator with dive computer, & weight-integrated
buoyancy compensator.
Cost: $190 Facility Pass & Activity Pass Holders /$215 Others

PADI Scuba Diver
The PADI Scuba Diver program is a pre-entry level certification
that is perfect for vacationers or people who only plan to dive a
couple times a year. As a subprogram of the full Open Water
Diver program, the PADI Scuba Diver rating allows you to get
certified quickly and easily by minimizing time constraints. With
the PADI Scuba Diver certification you can dive under the direct
supervision of a PADI Divemaster, Assistant Instructor,
Instructor or higher professional on your next vacation or dive
trip. Throughout phase I of the course, you’ll learn fundamentals
of scuba diving, including dive equipment and techniques. In
Phase II you'll make two open water (ocean or lake) dives. Please
note that Phase II is not part of this course. You'll need to schedule
your open water check-out dives with the instructor. Phase II
price is $120.

fitness and comfort in the water.

Try Scuba Free @ the UMD Pool
Test-dive scuba diving in our pool with Innerspace Scuba
Center's PADI Certified Staff in the water to assist you! All equipment
will be provided, and a brief instructional session will be
held pool-side to teach you the stuff you need to know to breathe
underwater safely. This mini-class is specially designed to run
on the first night of our regular PADI Open Water Diver and
PADI Scuba Diver classes so that you are actually doing the first
pool session for scuba class! This way, if you decide to learn to
dive, you can jump right into the class you started with.
Saturday, May 31 or July 5 3:00-6:00pm
Cost: FREE!!!!
Pre-requisites: No Scuba Experience Necessary, but you must be
in good health, be reasonably fit, and be comfortable in the
water. If you have any health issues or are on any medication,
please consult with your doctor before coming to this mini-class

ARC Lifeguard/CPR/PR/AED
The Lifeguard course prepares lifeguard candidates to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, and prevent drowning and other incidents in a variety of aquatic settings, including public pools, waterfronts, and waterparks.  The CPR portion of the course teaches care for adult, child & infant. You will learn the skills necessary to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies, including the use of automated defibrillation to care for a victim of cardiac arrest.

Recreational Swimming is for fun & fitness! If you have a Facilities Pass/Activity Card, Participation is FREE!! If you do not have a facility Pass / Activity Card, a general 10-swim punchcard can be purchased at the RSOP office during normal operational hours.

Aqua Fit
Aqua-Fit is great for swimmers and non-swimmers. The Aqua-Fit program
consists of a wide range of shallow & deep water exercises with varying intensities. Instructors utilize an assortment of equipment and techniques (aqua-jog belts, hydro-fit equipment and other gear) to assist with resistance and buoyancy throughout the class. Easy to learn drills, fun activities, and deep water running are included in the workouts.

At the pool in UMD’s Sports and Health Center

Prices are:
10-visit Adult Swim Tickets $27.50
10-visit Senior & Disabled Tickets $17.50
