Making Studded Bike Tires 20401
Get a grip! Come make snow tires for your bike by learning to convert a spare tire into a studded snow tire. We provide the stud ma- terials and tools, all you need is a spare tire that matches the size of your existing tires. The front tire is the most important to have studded, but a second for the back is helpful. Extend the biking season with your own stud- ded tires! Never tried cross-country skiing or haven't been skiing around Duluth? Or, you have clas- sic skied for years but want to jump into skate skiing? Here is your chance to build the es-
sential base skills to excel as a skier. You will be able to choose between skate skiing or clas- sic skiing (we'll have one classic clinic and one skate clinic at the same time). No experience is necessary, so throw out the excuses and come try it out for yourself! We'll be heading out to Boulder Lake Ski Trails, so no ski pass is required.

"Green Fire" Film Showing
The film shares highlights from Leopold's life and extraordinary career, explaining how he shaped conservation in the twentieth centu- ry and still inspires people today. Although probably best known as the author of the con- servation classic A Sand County Almanac, Leopold is also renowned for his work as an educator, philosopher, forester, ecologist, and wilderness advocate. Green Fire is that it is more than just a documentary about Aldo Leopold; it also explores the influence his ideas have had in shaping the conservation movement as we know it today by highlight- ing some really inspiring people and organiza- tions doing great work to connect people and the natural world in ways that even Leopold might not have imagined.

Ready to take your downhill skiing to the next level? Try Freestyle skiing! This session will be at Spirit Mountain and is specifically aimed at skiers that have accomplished the basics of turning and are ready to learn more advanced skills. We will cover the basics of freestyle ski- ing and safety. You will learn the essentials of balance and form while hitting small jumps and beginner features such as boxes and rails. We will also focus on safety and terrain park etiquette, so you can approach any terrain park with confidence. Learn about great places to get started testing out these skills, right in our own backyard! This trip will take us to Minnesota's second highest peak, Carlton Peak. North Shore Stream Ski 204024
Pack your sense of adventure and explore the frozen waterfalls and rapids of a Northern Minnesota stream on cross-country skis (yes, they will be solid and will be covered with snow). We will introduce frozen river naviga- tion techniques while we look for tracks in the snow, the forest in winter, and beautiful ice formation. This is a slightly more challenging outing so basic skills are needed but you don't need to be an expert. Come and enjoy the beauty of the canyons and frozen cascades... it doesn't get much better than this! Maple Syruping: From Trees to Pancakes 204027
Join us in UMD's Bagley Nature Area for our annual maple syruping program. Learn syr- uping history, and how sap is collected and turned into maple syrup. You will tap maples,

Minnesota Firearms Safety Course 204028
A certification from this course is a require- ment to get a hunting license in the State of Minnesota for anyone born after 12/31/1979. This course is for both adults and youth who want to get into hunting. It will be taught by Darrell Spencer & Bill Ulvi, who have been involved in hunting and education for many years and are DNR Certified Firearms Safety Instructors. The course focuses on the safe handling of firearms and hunter responsibility and is a combination of classroom and field experience, including a session at a rifle range. Thursdays, March 29 - April 19 6pm- 9pm (plus a session at the rifle range)

We will use the city bus (for free with our U Cards) to access the Superior Hiking Trail. We will use the outing to focus on how functional fitness, recreation, and nature appreciationchoices can contribute to community sustain- ability in a positive way. Diamond WillowWalking Sticks 204034
Diamond willow walking sticks have a long tradition in the northland and we will be tak- ing the "step" to learn how they are made. In this workshop, we'll actually go out to a lo- cal area to learn what to look for in finding a willow stick that will have a diamond pat- tern. Then everyone will get to harvest one for themselves and bring it back to the working area and begin the process of peeling, shaping, and carving. You actually get to leave with your own walking stick.
